An Open Letter to a New York Heart

You walk around with your hopes and dreams on your shoulders while the subway beats beneath your feet. I wonder what it’s like to hear quick footsteps and the hum of the city. The tall buildings, the views of the sun setting from your rooftops must be incredible. Sometimes I wonder if your lights shine as bright as mine in the night. I’d do anything to feel the energy of your city, to be surrounded by beautiful minds. It’s been so long since I’ve fallen in love, fallen in love with something so much bigger than myself.

They say that New York hearts are as cold as the concrete buildings that fill spaces like the hands of two people in love. I find that hard to believe because even when the hands of lovers are clenched together, there’s a warmth that fills the soul.

Maybe I’ll meet you soon. Or perhaps you’ll walk past me in the street, headphones on and focused on nothing but getting to where you needed to go. Maybe you’ll be a familiar face or perhaps I’ll be just another face in the crowd.

You’re so lucky to be greeted by such a beautiful place in the morning and to be able to bid it farewell as you lose yourself into the night.

Peter Pan & Polka Dots

One of my favorite Disney movies is Peter Pan. And by now you already know just how excited I am to get back to Disneyland this summer. lol. I wanted to find a dress or shirt that had the Peter Pan collar. This particular collar is flat with round corners. It was inspired by the collar on the costume worn by Maude Adams who played the role of Peter Pan back in 1905. There’s something about this look that has always reminded me of being a child, of youthful innocence. I happened to find the perfect dress last week that also fed to my love of polka dots. haha.

This afternoon, a few friends of mine joined me for coffee at one of Oakland’s newest additions, Noble Cafe, located on Grand St. off of Lake Merritt. It’s always nice to step away and talk with these two about every nothing under the sun. haha.

Stronger Everyday

These past few days have tested me in ways that I never figured I’d be tested. A lot has happened in such a short amount of time that, often times, I’ve felt overwhelmed and wasn’t too sure that I’d make it through.

Everyday is a reminder of the endless possiblities that life puts before us. We shouldn’t let our fears of failing hold us back from our true potential. I picked up this Audrey Hepburn print on canvas the other day that had one of my favorite quotes on it. I’ve woken up to it every morning for the past few days. It serves as a reminder of what I already know.

I may not always do things right, but I always make it a point to express how I feel when it comes to matters of the heart. There wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t tell him how much he meant to me. And although my friends think that I put myself out there too much, I politely disagree. I know what’s in my heart. So when I say it, I mean it with every ounce of me. I refuse to let fear be the one to keep me at bay from my dreams, wishes and hopes.

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes

Last week, I got word from my mum that… wait for it… wait for it… WE’RE GOING TO DISNEYLAND! It turns out that my whole family, along with more family, will be taking a trip to LA in July. I think there will be a little over 15 of us. I’m so excited!

(I may or may have not gotten really excited in way that was somewhat reminicent of the Disney commercials where the parents tell the little kids that they’re going to Disneyland/world and they’re so happy that they wanna cry… Maybe.)

Now, if you’re anything like me, you’d be so excited that you’re already ready to pack your things. (I’ve already set aside my Minnie ears. haha.) Considering that we’ll be in LA’s summer heat, I wanted to explore my options in regards to, well, outfits. haha. I was really leaning more towards dresses because the last time I was at Disneyland, being in shorts in the heat was a little more than I can handle. My inspiration behind these looks? My favorite New Girl, Jess. <3

I know that this GOTYE song has been on the radio over and over and over again, but seeing as how I don’t listen to the radio, I’m not so sick of it. haha.

This song is totally and completely relevant for me right now, and these kids just made it THAT much better.

Make sure you watch the whole thing. The little girl kills Kimbra’s verse! (In a good way, of course!)
